How we handle your data

This site asks for one thing — an email address — so we can tell you when SimplCarz is ready. This page says what happens to it, who else sees it, and how to get it back or get rid of it.

1. Who is responsible

July Industries (company number 16290659, registered at Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, United Kingdom, IP28 7DE) is the controller of the personal data described here. That means we decide what is collected and why, and we are the people to hold to account for it.

For anything in this notice, write to support@julyindustries.com.

2. What this covers

This notice covers two separate things, and it is worth knowing which applies to you:

  • This website and its waitlist form— sections 3 to 8 below. Joining the waitlist does not create an app account and gives us no vehicle data.
  • The SimplCarz app— section 9, which is self-contained. If you have an account, that is the part that applies to you.

Sections 10 onwards — your rights, complaints, security and changes — apply to both.

3. What we collect

Your email address

The only thing the form asks for, and the only thing you have to type. We do not ask for your name, your phone number, your postal address or anything about your car.

Technical information that comes with any web request

Loading a page, and submitting the form, sends your IP address and browser details to the services that serve and receive it. That is how the web works rather than a choice we made; it is used to deliver the page, keep the site up and defend it against abuse.

What we do not collect

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party tracking scripts — which is why you were not asked to accept any. Our fonts are served from our own domain, so loading this page tells no font provider you were here.

4. Why we use it, and on what legal basis

WhatWhyLawful basis (UK GDPR / GDPR Art. 6)
Your email addressTo email you about SimplCarz — that it has launched, and occasional updates on getting there. Nothing else.Consent, Art. 6(1)(a) — given by submitting the form, and withdrawable at any time.
IP address and request logsServing the site, keeping it available, and detecting abuse such as spam submissions.Legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) — running a working, secure website.

We will not use your address for anything else without asking you first. We do not sell it, rent it, or hand it to advertisers.

5. Who else sees it

Two suppliers process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to acting on our instructions:

  • Formspree, Inc. (United States) receives and stores waitlist submissions. Your browser sends the form straight to Formspree, so it also receives the IP address and browser details attached to that request.
  • Vercel Inc. (United States) hosts this site and keeps short-lived server logs of requests to it.

Those two are the suppliers for this website. The app uses a different set, listed in section 9.

Beyond that, we would only disclose personal data where the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.

6. Transfers outside the UK and EEA

Your vehicle records, photos, documents and account do not leave the United Kingdom. Supabase hosts them in a UK region, so the data the app is actually about stays here.

Some of what surrounds it does travel. Formspree and Vercel are based in the United States, so a waitlist address is transferred there, and RevenueCat is too, so your account id and subscription status go with it. Sentry takes crash reports on servers in Germany, which is inside the EEA and covered by a UK adequacy decision, so no additional safeguard is needed for it.

The transfers to the United States rely on the safeguards required by Art. 46 — the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the suppliers’ own certifications where they hold them. Ask us at support@julyindustries.com for a copy of the safeguards that apply.

7. How long we keep it

Your address is kept until whichever comes first: you ask us to delete it, you unsubscribe, or 24 months pass without SimplCarz launching. Once it has served its purpose it is deleted from our records and from Formspree. Server logs are kept only briefly, for security and diagnostics.

8. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy (access).
  • Correct it if it is wrong (rectification).
  • Delete it (erasure).
  • Pause our use of it while a dispute is settled (restriction).
  • Hand it over in a portable, machine-readable form (portability).
  • Object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time. That does not undo anything done beforehand, and the unsubscribe link in any email we send does the same thing in one click.

Email support@julyindustries.com and we will respond within one month. Exercising any of these rights is free and will not count against you.

9. The SimplCarz app

Everything above concerns this website. This section covers the app itself, and it is the part that applies if you have an account.

What the app holds

  • Your account— email address and a hashed password. We never see your password in readable form.
  • Your vehicles— nickname, make, model, trim, registration, VIN and mileage. A registration and a VIN identify a vehicle, and can identify its keeper, so we treat them as personal data.
  • Your records— the jobs you log, with date, mileage, type, cost, parts, labour and your notes; MOT, tax and insurance dates; service items and check-ins.
  • Photos and documentsyou attach — receipts, invoices and vehicle paperwork. We do not read them or extract anything from them.
  • Usage events— a record that the app was opened, a car added, a job logged, a screen visited. Used to work out which parts of the app are worth improving. Tied to your account id, not to your name or email.
  • Crash reports— when something breaks, a technical report of what failed, with your account id so we can tell whether a problem affects one person or everyone.
  • Subscription status, if you subscribe — whether SimplCarz Plus is active and when it expires.

We do not collect your location, your contacts, your advertising identifier or anything from other apps. The app contains no advertising and no third-party tracking.

Why, and on what basis

WhatWhyLawful basis (UK GDPR / GDPR Art. 6)
Account, vehicles, records, photosTo give you the service you signed up for — keeping your vehicle history and reminding you what is due.Contract, Art. 6(1)(b) — we cannot provide the app without it.
Usage events and crash reportsFinding out what is broken and what is worth building.Legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) — maintaining and improving the app.
Subscription statusKnowing whether to unlock paid features, and supporting you if a payment goes wrong.Contract, Art. 6(1)(b).

Who processes it for us

Each of these acts on our instructions under a contract, and none of them may use your data for their own purposes:

  • Supabase, Inc. hosts the database, your account and your uploaded photos and documents, in a United Kingdom region— this data does not leave the UK.
  • Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) receives crash reports, via servers in Germany.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) handles subscription status. It receives your account id and the purchase details Apple returns. It does not receive your email, your vehicles or your records.
  • Appletakes the payment if you subscribe. Apple is a separate controller for that, under its own privacy policy — we never see your card details.

How long it is kept

Your records are kept for as long as your account exists, because that is the point of them — a service history is only useful if it goes back years.

Deleting your account deletes them.Settings → Delete account removes your account, every vehicle, every record and every photo and document, and it cannot be undone. What remains afterwards is a dated record that an account was deleted, with no email address or other identifying detail in it, kept so we can account for how many accounts were closed and when.

Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Usage events are kept for 24 months and then deleted. Neither contains your email address, and neither is used to build a profile of you.

10. No automated decisions

We do not profile you and we make no decisions about you by automated means.

11. Children

SimplCarz is meant for car owners and this site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, tell us at support@julyindustries.com and we will remove it.

12. Keeping it safe

The site is served over HTTPS, and submissions are encrypted in transit. Access to the waitlist is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfect, but the surface here is deliberately small: one field, and nothing stored on your device.

13. Complaints

If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first — we would rather fix it than have you go elsewhere. Write to support@julyindustries.com. You can also complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office, or, if you are in the EEA, to your local supervisory authority.

14. Changes

If what we do with your data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Where a change materially affects you, we will email the address you gave us rather than rely on you noticing.
